I discovered the work of Irving Penn, who photographed tradespeople dressed in work clothes, photographed in a studio, carrying the tools of their trade, in Paris, London and New York. The workers are presented with dignity and pride, which is what I am doing. I am photographing the nightworkers in their working environment which makes them more natural and also, I want viewers of the photographs to see working environments, not just the people themselves.
